What Are the 12 Apostles?

The 12 Apostles are one of the most popular destinations along the Great Ocean Road. They are basically comprised of a collection of limestone stacks that sit just off the coastline in the stunning expanse of the Port Campbell National Park. Making a feat of a natural wonder, they draw in visitors from all over the world who want to learn about how they came into existence and to see them in all their glory.

While seeing these incredible limestone stacks from ground level is a sight to behold, you can get an even more unique perspective from the sky in a helicopter.

The activity sees you soaring through the air over the 12 Apostles themselves, as well as the sprawling beauty of Shipwreck Coast and the Port Campbell National Park. Participants get to hit the skies above the Southern Ocean while the helicopter makes its way along the stretch of Shipwreck Coast.

From the unique vantage point you can gaze out over the 12 Apostles and other major landmarks in the area, like Loch Ard Gorge, the site of one of Australia’s most famous shipwrecks, and the Bay of Islands.

If you’re lucky, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the resident blue whales during June and October as they frolic off the coast of Portland during the breeding season.

The Great Ocean Road is at the top of many visitor’s bucket lists when they visit Australia, and experiencing some of the natural wonders that the area is famed for is a must-do. As well as viewing the 12 Apostles from a breath-taking perspective, taking a helicopter ride over the scenery also gives you the chance to explore some of the other landmarks from a unique view point.
