Torquay Beach Surfing

The town of Torquay is a popular stop for travellers making their way along the Great Ocean Road. Not only is it a great place to stop for a bite to eat, but it also has lovely beaches and is known as a surfer’s paradise.

Here are five fantastic things to do when visiting Torquay.

1. Take a stroll at Bells Beach

Bells Beach is a popular beach in Torquay. When you arrive at the beach, you will see many people swimming, surfing, or relaxing on the beach. It is a great spot to sit and read a book or people watch. Just don’t forget your sunscreen! Even when it is cloudy the sun can still be quite strong.

2. Try surfing at Bells Beach

If you have always wanted to try surfing, you are in luck. Torquay is dotted with surf schools, so it’s easy to book a lesson. There are different lessons you can book based on the amount of time you want to spend or your skill level. Though there are many experienced surfers at Bells Beach, there are also plenty of beginners, so don’t be afraid to give it a go!

3. Visit the National Surfing Museum

Located in the heart of Torquay is the National Surfing Museum. As you may have guessed, the museum features all things surfing. Even if you’re not a surfer, this museum is definitely worth checking out. There is a lot to learn about how closely Australia is tied to the worldwide surf scene. You’ll see everything from boards used by famous surfers to the evolution of surfing and much more.

4. Shop at Torquay’s Saturday morning farmer’s market

Okay, so maybe you have tried all the surfing opportunities and are ready to explore some more things. If you are visiting Torquay on a Saturday, be sure to check out the central farmers market. The farmers market runs from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and offers a wide variety of locally grown produce. If you’re just passing through and don’t need produce, stop by for a stroll or pick up a delicious coffee and pastry.

5. Grab a sweet treat at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery

This delicious chocolate shop is a short drive from the town centre and offers a mouthwatering range of chocolates and ice cream. If you have a sweet tooth, this place is for you. It is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, so you can have chocolates and ice cream for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

The town of Torquay is the perfect place to spend the day on your journey along the Great Ocean Road!
