The Great Ocean Road is one of the most photogenic places in Victoria: Here’s Why

Rocky coastline. Views forever. Charming beach towns. One of a kind stays along the road. There’s no place to take photos quite like the Great Ocean Road. Not only in Australia, but in the world.

The Great Ocean Road is one of the most photogenic parts of Victoria.

If birdwatching is your thing, then birdlife along the Great Ocean Road flies through the vast landscape. See flocks of cockatoos soaring high above the cliffs and get a lucky snap, or get glimpses of koalas chilling in the trees at Kennett River as they munch on the eucalyptus leaves.

Our favourite spots for a photo along the Great Ocean Road are:

  • Memorial Arch
  • 12 Apostles
  • Loch Ard Gorge
  • Aireys Inlet

Memorial Arch

Memorial Arch

This is one of the most iconic places along the Great Ocean Road to take a photo! It’s a giant sign that’s placed above the road, which marks the beginning of the Great Ocean Road. Many groups will gather here to take a photo of this iconic spot!

Snap a photo at Memorial Arch, and it’ll put the ‘memory’ in Memorial! The Memorial Arch is, well and truly, one of the best places to take photos in Australia. Snap up birds as they soar high above the rugged coastal cliffs or take a photo of the koalas as they chill in the trees above.

12 Apostles

The 12 Apostles are an obvious beauty spot along the Great Ocean Road. It’s one of the main highlights of the Great Ocean Road!

There are some great spots for a photo, but the 12 Apostles is one of the most iconic landscapes in the South Coast of Victoria. You’ll get a load of different snaps from many different points of view. Depending on where you get a snap from, you’ll capture a landscape that stands as one of Australia’s greatest!

Loch Ard Gorge

This spot is just a short drive from Apollo Bay. It’s a beauty spot that is famous for the story of the shipwreck love story (read the full article here). Because of how iconic this spot is, it’s perfect for a snap! The unique formation of the rocks here makes it one of the most memorable spots in Victoria for a photo.

Aireys Inlet

Don’t miss the views atop the Split Point Lighthouse from the famous Aussie TV show, Round the Twist. This iconic lighthouse was the setting for this cult classic show, making it a nostalgic landmark for many Aussies!

Go to the top of the lighthouse and take a 360 panoramic photo or video, or soak up the views from the nearby viewpoints that are scattered around Airey’s Inlet.
