There are heaps of gorgeous sites to see near and along the Great Ocean Road, including Hopetoun Falls.

Hopetoun Falls is one of the many beautiful waterfalls found near the Great Ocean Road. Another popular attraction on the Great Ocean Road is the iconic 12 Apostles. So, how long is the drive between the two? It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to drive between Hopetoun Falls and the 12 Apostles.

About Hopetoun Falls

Hopetoun Falls is located inland just off the Great Ocean Road. If you decide to drive the Great Ocean Road one way and take the inland road on the way back, be sure to check out this waterfall.

The hike to the waterfall lookout is about a 20-metre walk from the parking lot. If you want to get closer to the waterfall, you can visit the lower platform. This walk is about a 1-kilometre return and takes around half an hour to complete.

Though it is a short hike to see this waterfall, keep in mind that it may still be difficult. The descent can be a bit steep, meaning that climbing back up the hiking path may take some extra effort.

What to see along the way

The drive between Hopetoun Falls and the 12 Apostles is very scenic. You will pass through small Victorian villages and the Great Otway National Park while driving between the two locations.

Melba Gully

If you enjoy scenic rainforest walks, visit Melba Gully. On your hike, you will be surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the rainforest. One of the rainforest hikes will even lead to a cascading waterfall!

Gibson Steps

The Gibson Steps are located near the 12 Apostles and lead down to the beach. This is a great place to take a stroll along the sandy shoreline of the Great Ocean Road. There’s nothing better than a scenic beach walk accompanied by the sound of crashing ocean waves.

The Great Ocean Walk

The Great Ocean Walk is a very long hike that hugs the Great Ocean Road. You may not be up for the multi-day hike, but there are plenty of short sections to check out.

Some of the highlights you can see along this walk include koalas, Cape Otway Lighthouse, lively rockpools, and more.

Triplet Falls

Triplet Falls is another set of waterfalls located in the Great Otway National Park. If you’re up for the adventure, embark on the hour-long loop through the rainforest to see this waterfall. You won’t be disappointed!
