If you wander around the magnificent Otway National Park, you might just spot these towering trees!

Redwood trees

The redwood seeds were brought over in the late 1800s from California. They adapted well to the Otway National Park due to its moist climate and soil that is full of nutrients.

The redwoods are not native to Australia, but were brought in from California.

They were an experiment conducted in 1936. Luckily for the redwoods, they thrived, and they soared up into the skies!

But how can you find them? Directions to the Californian Redwoods

The redwoods are about 200km away from Melbourne by car.  The redwoods are 45 minutes away from Colac, so if you’re coming inland from Melbourne, then Colac is the nearest stop off. The road is sealed, so it’s easy to drive on.

Aim to find the Beech Forest, which can easily be accessed if you go through Binns Road.

If you pass through Apollo Bay, continue onto Binns Road, which is a sealed road. Keep going along this road, and you’ll eventually get to the Redwoods.

The redwoods are signposted in the Beech Forest, so you’ll be able to find them if you follow the signs on your trail!

The Californian redwoods are magical! Look upwards and take a moment to marvel at their towering presence!
